As soon as a baby girl is born, people in the house instantly associate it with good luck, prosperity, positivity, and the footprints of Goddess Lakshmi imprinting the home, and suddenly choosing a name for your daughter becomes one of the first big and emotional decisions you make for her.

Parents often go through a roller coaster ride choosing the right name for their kid, something that has a profound meaning, is unique, and also defines a preconceived personality that might even influence how she sees herself.

For many Hindu families, that search leads to the goddess, Maa Durga, whose nine forms are prayed to during the festival of Navratri. She is the divine feminine at her strongest, someone who is fearless, protective, and calm in the middle of a storm.
Shakti, the cosmic energy behind her, is the idea that power itself is feminine.

Names for girl children based on the Goddess’ name aren’t just pretty. They carry a prayer, a hope that a little girl will grow up with courage and grace.
